Cookies are required to participate in the CancerConnect.com Community. A cookie is a small data file, which often includes an anonymous unique identifier that is sent to your browser from a website's computers and stored on your computer's hard drive. CancerConnect.com uses two types of cookies: Session Cookies, and Persistent Cookies. Session Cookies are temporary cookies that remain in the cookie file of your browser until you leave the website. How will my data be used?
Your data will be used to facilitate participation in your community. You will receive email notifications about news and discussions taking place in your chosen community. Your data will also be aggregated and made available to other members as well as CancerConnect.com administrators as part of the Community dialogue. In addition to serving the individual needs of our members, CancerConnect.com may make your information, as part of an aggregated set of data, available to third parties. For example, we may show that 200 breast cancer patients in the community are between the ages of 25 – 40. Your individual data will never be made available. CancerConnect.com will never rent, sell or share information that personally identifies you for marketing purposes. However we may provide commercial interests with anonymized data (which may or may not be aggregated) for research and commercial purposes.
CancerConnect.com cannot guarantee the identity of any other members with whom you may interact in the course of using the site or who may have access to information you have posted. Additionally, we cannot guarantee the authenticity of any data that members may provide about themselves. CancerConnect.com takes commercially reasonable technical precautions to help keep your experience secure. Here are some of the ways we protect your information:
- Our servers are backed up each day.
- We have an automated system for 24/7/365 scanning to keep the site free from spam.
- The passwords on our servers are changed frequently to guard against unwanted intruders.
What safeguards does CancerConnect have in place to secure data?
We follow the best practices in security (as per HIPAA Security Compliance). We use a respected, secure hosting provider for the site. We also use Linux RedHat security systems on our production servers. These are state-of-the-art and are upgraded on a regular basis. Our systems have been developed to prevent the most common security vulnerabilities. For secure browsing, we use 128-bit SSL encryption using Verisign certificates. Finally, when we do any testing and development work to the site, we strip out all personal identification.
We want you to have a great experience in our Community. So, there are just a few rules we’d like you to follow so that everyone is comfortable. If you ever feel uncomfortable on CancerConnect we’d like to hear from you. Please email the specific incidence to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thanks. The CancerConnect Team.
