So, this statement allows us to be completely transparent about how any information that we collect from you will be used either by or by other parties. We ask you to register when you join so that you can manage your own personal information. We also want to be able to customize an experience that is valuable to you. Please keep your password secret. If you decide to share it with others, it is your responsibility to make sure that they use it appropriately. Your data will be used to facilitate participation in your community. You will receive email notifications about news and discussions taking place in your chosen community. Your data will also be aggregated and made available to other members as well as administrators as part of the Community dialogue. In addition to serving the individual needs of our members, may make your information, as part of an aggregated set of data, available to third parties. For example, we may show that 200 breast cancer patients in the community are between the ages of 25 – 40. - The passwords on our servers are changed frequently to guard against unwanted intruders.

What safeguards does CancerConnect have in place to secure data?

We follow the best practices in security (as per HIPAA Security Compliance). We use a respected, secure hosting provider for the site. We also use Linux RedHat security systems on our production servers. These are state-of-the-art and are upgraded on a regular basis. Our systems have been developed to prevent the most common security vulnerabilities. For secure browsing, we use 128-bit SSL encryption using Verisign certificates. Finally, when we do any testing and development work to the site, we strip out all personal identification.
